Honduras is among the countries with the highest homicide rates in the world with 75% of murders committed with weapons – a figure significantly higher than the global average. The prevalence of firearms feeds into the country's problems with organised crime and criminal gangs.
Honduran firearms regulations are weak and lead to delays in the processing of ballistics data, the disappearance of critical information, and ineffective use of this data to prosecute criminals.
